Dental braces - general

A beautiful smile is a calling card, especially nowadays, when we interact with more people every day. However, such a smile depends on impeccable teeth, which is difficult to achieve unless nature has been very generous and has put some order into the way your teeth and jawbone grow and orientate. Fortunately, medical technology has advanced, and there are now many solutions available to straighten teeth and give them their normal shape, the simplest and most accessible being the fitting of a dental appliance.

Braces are a system for repositioning and aligning the teeth, a process that is realised thanks to fixed elements that are anchored for a certain period of time on the outer surface of the teeth.

The materials used to make these pieces are strong and durable, but also easy to maintain: ceramic, stainless steel, metal or plastic. Each element applies a constant pressure to the tooth on which it is fixed, causing it to move in a certain direction.

The movement of the teeth is naturally followed by that of the jaw, which adapts to new conditions. Braces have many advantages and can be used for both children and adults.

If for adults these dental braces can be fitted early, for children these braces must be fitted after the appearance of permanent teeth, that is around the age of 10-12 years. This makes it relatively easy to correct the problems that adults face and which often affect their social and even professional life.

Such a device allows both teeth and roots straightening, shortening or aligning dental crowns, remodelling and extending arches or correcting malocclusions.

The bite and the aesthetic position of the jaw are thus obtained.

The maintenance of a dental appliance depends on its nature, if it is fixed or mobile, but it does not require special activities, but only an increased hygiene of the oral cavity, the two daily brushings (morning and evening), adding the brushing after each meal, to remove any food debris.
